The power of The Spacesaver Group was definitely evident when we all got together for the Principals Meeting in Chicago at the end of January. We are all clearly committed to Invest. Align. Deliver. on our three-year product growth plans and strategies.

The key word is “commit”. As we talked about at the meeting, the “Group Commitment” plaques (signed by every Area Contractor) are the cornerstone of The Group and represent our Principles of Action. Having just celebrated our 50-year anniversary, we are now focused on our future. Therefore, the time could not be better to refresh our commitment plaques as signed at the meeting. They represent a renewed energy and the foundation of The Group for generations to come.

Since your sales reps, inside support, installers, etc. were not at the meeting, I wanted to share the new plaques and revised 10 Principles of Action with the entire Group.

As a reminder, these are now being framed and will be sent back for you to display prominently in your offices.

Spacesaver Scorecard

With 2022 in the rearview mirror, the focus is back on growth for 2023 and we have several ACs that are sprinting out of the gate! For orders, Henderson-Johnson has taken the lead for % of quota, submitting nearly 320% of their monthly quota in January. Patterson-Pope dominated the revenue total, entering over $2M (113%) to start the year – led by the GA/AL PAR with over $800K (231%), with the Carolinas a close second at $708K (142%). Bradford Systems was over $1.M (197%) in their IL/IN/MO PAR, while Systems & Space (133%), Interior Solutions (132%), and Mid-America Business Systems (131%) were all over 130% of their target. As a Group, we are a little off pace, sitting at 80% … but forecasts predict a comeback is on the way in February.

Reversing the trend from last year, shipments are outpacing orders, with the Group total at nearly 105% of the monthly quota. Shannon’s Storage (Manitoba) invoiced over 377% of their January quota, while Patterson-Pope crushed it with almost $2.5M (140%) out the door – led by their Midwest PAR with over $1.4M (242%). We had 14 total PARs exceed their monthly quota for shipments, with Systemcenter (237%), Interior Solutions (213%), Spacesaver Systems MD (197%), Storagelogic (178%), Spacesaver Specialists (157%), Apex Projects (157%), and Mid-America Business Systems (155%) all over 150% of their January shipment goal.

Our focus is on growth and we are excited to see how our team excels in 2023 – let’s get after it!!!

Major Projects

MIT Off-Site Museum

Spacesaver’s Major Projects Department, with the partnership of Dan Clifford and Dan Loreaux at Donnegan Systems, responded to an RFP for MIT’s off-site collections storage. The Museum had a very aggressive timeline, so we did not include any pricing with our proposal, but rather with a project plan to design a recommended layout based on their collections inventory. Shortly after our submittal, we got the good news that we were awarded the project!

Emily Martin and Joe Leibfried – along with Steve Pyne and Ben Adamitus – are meeting with the museum frequently to design their ideal collections storage based on their feedback and recommendations. Our involvement on this project also includes meeting with the building architects and advising them on proper fire suppression considerations, floor loading and other items they need in order to secure building permits.

2023 Invest Algin Deliver

That’s a wrap on our 2023 Principals Meeting – our first in-person meeting all together in three years! It was wonderful to see one another and catch up, but more importantly, we had the chance to kick off the year by laying out the strategic vision for the next three years, a major element of which includes our 2023 Theme: Invest. Align. Deliver. This theme is a multi-year strategy that aligns with and emphasizes our long-term strategic goal of comprehensive growth, and incorporates advances in automation, increases in manufacturing capacity, and improvements in quality, operational efficiency, and on-time shipping. We ignited a new vision in 2022 with our 50th Anniversary and now it’s time to continue to grow its potential.

Why is a theme important? This is our rally cry and a way to envision the path to plan. It’s a call to action for the Spacesaver team as a whole, as well as across departments, project teams, and for each individual contributor. We can ask ourselves: How are we investing our time, budgets, resources? In what ways are we aligning to drive outcomes? How are we pushing to deliver growth?

We believe this can be a call to action for the entire Spacesaver Group to help achieve growth as well – across your Spacesaver business, within the vertical markets, and for each team member.

Securing The Heart of the City

Looking to bring together three major services, administrators in Mishawaka, Indiana purchased a unique building in the center of the city. The 92,000 SF building – selected to house City Hall, Utility Services, and the Police Department – presented the opportunity to provide an updated building and systems for all three entities. Focusing on the Police Department, Bradford Systems helped to deliver a more functional and welcoming environment for officers, staff, and residents who needed to utilize the space. The end result featured updated Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms, upgraded weapons and evidence storage solutions, and so much more. Thank you, Bradford for sharing this innovative installation. Dispensary Sales: A Budding Prospect

DO NOT overlook dispensaries. There are currently over 7,500 dispensaries nationwide and that figure continues to grow rapidly due to recent recreational and medicinal license approvals. One of these locations, aptly named “The Dispensary”, was feeling the effects of its sudden growth, leading them to reach out to their local Spacesaver representative. Scott Srodes of Spacesaver Intermountain answered the call and was able to roll up an effective mix of static shelving, high-density mobile shelving, casework, bins, and roll-up lockable doors to keep product secure and the store running efficiently from front to back. Thank you, Scott Srodes for sharing one of the many installations he and Spacesaver Intermountain have secured!

Spacesaver Military Market Update

It’s a new calendar year and opportunity awaits us! That said, we wanted to remind you of the top targets/goals/initiatives you should be exploring this year:

  • Engage with Space Force customers in 2023 to include booking orders at each Space Force “Delta” location
  • Increase efforts at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs)
  • Increase support and Area Contractor engagement relative to DOD priorities and VMM strategic initiatives
  • Leveraging VAR’s where applicable
  • Capture additional market share at US Navy shipyards due to shipbuilding optimization and shipyard modernization goals of the DOD
  • Grow wallet share for UWR and accessories as the US Army begins to field the Sig Sauer XM7 and XM250 weapons
  • Conduct capabilities briefs with Army National Guard G4’s
  • Subsequent state facility surveys to be completed
  • Capitalize on the development of the air-worthy UEWSS and other Deployable Spacesaver solutions

Scientific Solutions For Static Systems

Needing a significant boost in available space on the first floor of the science library, the University of Arizona reached out to its trusted partners at Interior Solutions to add some flexibility to its static system profile. Supported by a state contract, Scott Fero and Matt Bevaqua partnered to provide a combination of high-density mobile systems that would open up the space and opportunities for those within the library. The project is scheduled to be completed by Q3. Thank you to Scott and Matt for sharing this project!

Supporting All Students

The mission of the Maryland School for the Blind is to serve students with blindness or low-vision of all abilities from birth through 21 throughout their educational journey. Needing to create more space for materials and more opportunity for those they serve, school administrators reached out to their local Spacesaver consultant at StorageLogic. Paul Leatherman of StorageLogic worked with the school to provide a mix of static and mobile systems, comprising one of the largest K-12 orders we have had to date. The project is scheduled for installation later this year. Thank you, Paul for sharing this impactful installation with us!

This Museum Installation: It Rocks

The South Carolina State Museum houses a diverse collection of more than 70,000 pieces of art, artifacts, fossils, and more, reflecting the rich history of South Carolina from the pre-historic era to the present. So, when it came time to increase their capacity to preserve tomorrow’s pieces, they reached out to their storage expert of more than a decade, Kristin Ormand of Patterson Pope. Utilizing Spacesaver solutions available on an SC State Contract, Kristin was able to make the procurement process easier for the museum to secure the necessary systems. One unique feature of the project is that its end panels will include a laminate finish called “It Rocks” that looks like pebbles in a stream. Thank you, Kristin for sharing this project!
