August 2023

It’s August, and that means football camps are open and teams of every level are getting ready for a new season! For us, it’s already the third quarter and we are looking for another victory at the end of 2023! As presented during our virtual Principals Meeting last month, 2023 is shaping up to be another great year for The Spacesaver Group.

As we discussed, Spacesaver and the entire Group have accomplished so much in the first seven months of the year. But we still have much to accomplish in the last 5 months:

  • Launching four new products
  • Forming an Innovation Council
  • Continued work on CET implementation
  • Installation of new capital equipment in operations
  • Distribution of Behavioral Assessments
  • 2024 Strategic Planning focusing on year two of our three-year growth strategy
  • And much more!

Let’s continue to work as a team by remaining focused, hungry, and motivated. Please let us know how we can help and use all the resource investments we have made over the past several years to help you all succeed.

A sincere thank you for your business and please enjoy what is left of summer!

Stay healthy, and God bless!

Mark Haubenschild | President/CEO

Congratulations to our Area Contractor teams that have a Spacesaver Group anniversary!

Spacesaver Scorecard

After setting the 2023 high mark for incoming orders in June ($9.5M – 112%), we followed it with another strong month, bringing in over $8.7M (101.2%) in new orders. Systems & Space exceeded the $1M mark, booking 334% of their monthly quota. Also eclipsing 302% of quota, Mid-America Business Systems booked almost $700K, putting them over their YTD quota. With the exceptional months, we now sit at 92.5% of incoming order quota as a Group, with HBI Office Plus leading the % race (291%), and Bradford Systems IL/IN/MO on top of the revenue charts with almost $6.7M in new business through July. We now have 13 PARs over their YTD incoming order quota and another 5 that are over 91%.

Diversified Storage Solutions set the pace in July for shipments, invoicing over $1.7M (322%), while Spacesaver Intermountain kept their exceptional year going with another phenomenal month, shipping 258% of their monthly quota ($787k) and keeping them over 138% of YTD goal. Patterson Pope Midwest leads the shipment standings in both revenue and % of quota – over $7.3M (179%) already invoiced in 2023!!! Henderson-Johnson is on their heels, with 164% invoiced and Donnegan Systems VT/ME/NH is not far behind at 147%. As a Group, we are at 99% of shipment quota, and with 13 PARs over 100% and another 6 over 92%, we are anticipating a winning finish down the stretch.

With the DoD and Government fiscal year end upon us, 2023 is shaping up to be another great year for the entire Spacesaver Group – thank you for making us the best in the business!

2023 Invest Algin Deliver

Our multi-year strategy includes a core tenet applicable for just about anything in life: a commitment to DELIVER. Clearly, our collective teams have done this and more for their clients so far this year. So, in the spirt of celebrating examples of our theme throughout the Group, we’d like to share an example of how Diversified Storage Solutions (DSS) provided an opportunity to deliver for several members.

Smaller, regional shows can provide tremendous value. We say this often because it’s true. In the case of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) Annual Meeting held in Wilmington, Delaware, DSS identified that not only would attendance benefit their organization, but also 6 other ACs in the Mid-Atlantic region. From this suggestion, Spacesaver will now be exhibiting at the show – with DSS representatives at the booth and collecting leads for all 7 ACs whose territories fall withing the association’s extensive reach.

Shout out to DSS for their dedication to DELIVER success throughout the Group. How will you continue to DELIVER in 2023 and beyond?

SAA & ALA were certainly great resources for those in attendance. Accommodating nearly 20,000 attendees and visitors between the two shows, our booth workers were finding high-quality leads all over the place. Some major points of discussion included:

  • Archives becoming a big focus to preserve and promote the history and legacy of schools
  • Spacesaver can provide more than just HDMS for institutions
  • Innovation toward multipurpose spaces continues to be in-demand

Fired Up Funding for Station Organization

Creating a facilitating environment for students to grow into professionals in their chosen field is essentially the goal for any higher education institution. This requires not only dedicated professors and support staff to deliver valuable information, but also public safety officials to ensure staff, teachers, and students remain safe throughout the process. Backed by a bond passed to update and improve public safety facilities throughout their county, Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia began the process of updating its campus’ fire station – namely the way in which it stored the professional and personal items of its staff. Having a strong relationship with the architect on the project, Richard Schemenaur of Patterson Pope was called upon to bring fit and function to the firehouse. Upon assessing the station’s layout and desire to offer high-quality, versatile lockers for its firefighters to store and support all their belongings while on shift, Richard recommended personal storage lockers to fit their need. The result – scheduled for install by the end of September – will fit perfectly outside of the bunkrooms, allowing users to rest easy and prepare quickly knowing what they need will be safe and accessible.

Thank you, Richard, for providing this important reminder of the value establishing relationships with key partners can deliver in securing deals!

A New High In Grand Junction Colorado

Approved in November 2021, a ballot granted the district $115 million in a tax bond to rebuild Grand Junction High School’s 65-year-old building. The school also received support from a $10 million BEST grant its district received, which provides financial assistance to school districts for the construction and/or renovation of new or existing public schools. Now armed with funding, the school started looking for ways to outfit its new facility. Taking advantage of all avenues for winning bids, MOTUS Space Solutions was awarded the opportunity to provide solutions for the school’s book room storage through Bidnet – a government bidding vehicle. MOTUS’ Bill Kuntz took on the task, providing a Mechanical-assist Mobile System with a non-powered safety brake and incorporating 4-Post Shelving and BAT Rail to optimize available space in the new facility’s book storage room. Construction of the new GJHS school building began in June 2022. It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2024 and operational by the fall semester. Thank you, Bill for sharing this story!

A Pivot-al Moment in Tazewell County History

Upon receiving a donation to expand their building, Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society in Pekin, IL was ready to get to work. However, rising construction costs forced them to look for alternate options including renovating its existing space and systems, so they called Gary Lowery – their local Spacesaver representative at Bradford Systems. Upon assessing the space and its construction, Gary determined it would not be ideal for high-density mobile carriages. Instead, he designed a Wheelhouse Mechanical-assist system option for them. Seeing the system’s design, administrators were skeptical at first. However, after a visit to a nearby VA clinic that utilizes a similar Spacesaver system with floorless rail, all doubts of the system’s capabilities and value were eliminated. Now, the society’s curators report a brighter, more functional archives room, and its end panels have enhanced the professional look of their storage space. Not only has the new system helped them add storage space, but its fresh look is also gaining marketing exposure, which will lead to increased donations and support. Thank you, Gary for sharing this amazing story.

Ensuring Storage Opportunities Takeoff

An ever-growing community along the San Francisco-Bay Area Peninsula, San Mateo County includes the San Francisco International Airport within its borders. Serving nearly 46 million passengers per year, the airport creates an increasing demand for higher capacity evidence rooms, more lockers for deputies, and a larger space requirement for department office staff – all geared toward keeping operations running at full force. Needing systems that could keep up with this rapid growth and having COVID-19 funding to allocate toward the project, administrators were connected with Jordan Jaime, their local Spacesaver representative at Systems & Space, through One Workplace, whose account managers recognized a need for storage solutions and brought Jordan into the project as an extension of their services. Originally seen as just a request for high-density mobile systems, Jordan was able to review the department’s expansion plans and uncover a need for multiple other floors of storage that would’ve likely fallen to the GC’s scope. Altogether, the project will encapsulate four (4) large high-density systems for evidence, four (4) pass thru evidence lockers, 392 total Men’s and Women’s FreeStyle lockers with electrical and Digilocks, and 10 additional rooms of 4-Post shelving. The anticipated completion date for the project is early Q1 2024. Thank you for sharing, Jordan!

Spacesaver Agriculture Market Update

Agriculture

One theme we pulled from this year’s American Horticulture show was to keep focusing on reaching the next level. Not only as an attitude toward navigating the market’s current valley, but also in promoting our drastic differentiator from single-tier greenhouse operations – the GROW Mobile System and its ability for clients to utilize available vertical space.

While at the American Horticulture show, we partnered with Patterson Pope on a well-attended happy hour for attendees at their offices. Let us know if you’d like to set up an event for a show near your office.

Diners, Widespans, and Chives

Columbus Artisan Growers is a hydroponic farm that partners with local restaurants and distributors in the greater Columbus, Ohio area to provide ethnic, exotic, artisanal ingredients from around the world. An indoor grow operation that prides itself on its ability to blend food and technology, its founders knew they needed help in producing a high-quality product in an efficient manner. This led them to reach out to their local Spacesaver consultant at Patterson Pope for help in optimizing their space and maximizing their yield. Working with Drew Simons, they were outfitted with a GROW Mobile System featuring widespan shelving – allowing them to produce, package, and distribute their ingredients with ease. Thanks to Drew for providing information on this innovative installation!

Supported Sales for Road Warriors

In today’s world, an unexpected knock on your door or call to your phone generally means some sort of sales-oriented presentation is just an answer away. While technology has helped in filtering out a great amount of the solicitation, every once in a while, you answer that call and find unexpected value in the pitch and what their services can provide to better your situation. Such was the case for NAS Jacksonville when Rob Muley of Patterson Pope came knocking with his local ADS representative and their TLS program alongside. Wanting to take full advantage of having the ADS representative along for the ride, the two made a stop by the station to see if there was a need. What they found, was a space looking to upgrade their dated storage solutions, reduce safety hazards, and boost organization and readiness. Utilizing the ADS contract program, Rob was able to provide several high-density mobile storage systems, RaptorRAC widespan shelving, and tire storage solutions to remedy the situation. Thank you, Rob, for providing this great example of what can be accomplished from a cold call and a red-hot procurement vehicle.

GOING ABOVE PAR. Members of the Spacesaver Group are dedicated to doing all they can to collectively grow sales and serve their clients. This recurring section will feature a specific instance in which one or more of our partners went above and beyond to exemplify this principle.

Tradeshow attendance throughout the country is continuing to increase. Whether it’s a smaller regional affair or your favorite organizations’ annual gathering, we’re back out in full force bringing our solutions to your neighborhood. While Spacesaver’s team members can certainly serve as a valuable resource for attendees, nothing is more impactful than having a local expert in the booth. Show after show, we see a marked difference in quality leads from shows in which we had a local storage expert in the booth working hand-in-hand with our solutions and face-to-face with attendees.
